NeedNeed for Speed from Electronic Arts first appeared on the 3DO, the console system from the mid-nineties that failed to capture a foothold on the gaming market. But that didn’t stop the Need for Speed series from continuing. Over the years the series has been released on the PlayStation console system and, of course, the PC. In all, there have been five Need for Speed games, with Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed having been released earlier this year on the PC.

Now, thanks to Aspyr Media, Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed, a game that features the 50 year history of the most storied performance car maker in the world…Porsche, is coming to the Mac. From the real-world physics to the thrilling racing, Porsche Unleashed is a work of art all Mac users will come to enjoy. Here’s just a few reasons why…

Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed, a really nice racing / driving game sold in 2000 for Windows, is available and ready to be played again! Time to play an arcade, vehicle simulator, automobile and track racing video game title. Mac game publisher Aspyr Media's plans to publish a Macintosh version of Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed was one of the highlights of Aspyr's 'Aspyrworld' media event last October in Austin.

With Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed, Mac users arguably get the best game in the series. Porsche features a brand new graphics engine, not a rehash from the previous versions (as is the case with many Electronic Arts titles), resulting in stunning visuals that far surpass previous versions. Thanks to a full license from Porsche, the 80 or so cars in Unleashed are meticulously detailed in full 3D, with players having the ability to look and zoom inside the car to check out the completely three-dimensional dash, under the hood, and even the trunk. On later 911s, the spoilers pop up when you reach over 50 mph and retract when you slow to 30 mph. Neat, huh?

The tracks themselves are nothing short of astonishing. Unlike past racing games that featured small tracks and repeating architecture, Porsche’s tracks are vast and gorgeous; all modeled after German landmarks. Lighthouses, tankers, towns, bridges, towers, and modern highways all add to the incredible realism. The game also features a dynamic sky with clouds moving rapidly, especially on rainy days.

Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed Windows 10

Unlike previous Need for Speed games that included closed circuit roads, Porsche’s tracks are mainly open roads that include alternate routes to the finish line. While racing, you’ll often find the more aggressive computer drivers taking short cuts (like cutting through the grass) or taking side roads (often shorter but more treacherous paths). All in all, Porsche includes nine European open road courses and five closed tracks.
